Keep your 4th grader reading this summer the fun way!
Your child will love reading with RIK! In each kit are six to nine packages containing surprises that relate to the story. Children open them at intervals as they read.
No other reading program has proven to be as engaging, motivating, or just plain fun! Read independently or grab your friends, form a book club, do book-related activities and have fun reading with RIK.
The RIK Summer Reading Program includes four exciting kits selected by elementary school librarian and RIK founder, Paula Ruesch. Enjoy Paula’s Picks, or custom design your own bundle. Kits can be ordered with or without books. The RIK surprise packages track with a specific book, so the book is necessary, but if you have the book or want to check it out from the library, that’s totally cool. We are big fans of libraries.
Included in the RIK Summer Reading bundle for 4th graders are the following titles:
Book written by: Kate Egan with Magician Mike Lane
Book published by: Square Fish
Their lives take an interesting turn when Mike and Nora discover The White Rabbit — an odd shop owned by Mr. Zerlin, a magician, who believes Mike could be a magician, too. With the help of the contents of this kit, maybe you could be a magician too!
Phineas L. MacGuire Erupts!
Book written by: Frances O’Roark Dowell
Book published by: Aladdin Paperbacks
Here’s what you need to know about Phineas L. MacGuire, boy-scientist extraordinaire, aka Mac:
1. He’s allergic to purple, telephone calls, and girls, and can prove it.
2. He’s probably the world’s expert on mold, including which has the highest stink potential.
3. He does not have a best friend. He does, however, have an un-best friend, who he does not — repeat, not — want to upgrade to best friend status.
But disaster strikes when his teacher pairs Mac and his un-best friend together for the upcoming science fair. Worse, this un-best friend wants the project to be on dinosaurs, which is so third grade. Worse still, it seems as though everyone else in his class finds the un-best friend as unlikeable as Mac does. But, being a boy-scientist, once Mac notices this, he just might have to do some investigating….
Because of Winn-Dixie
Book written by: Kate DiCamillo
Book published by: Candlewick Press
When 10-year-old Opal moves to a small town in Florida, she doesn’t know what to expect. But the last thing she expects to find is companionship with a rambunctious little dog she names Winn-Dixie after the store where she found the pup. By the time you finish reading this delightful story, you’ll be wishing you had a little dog of your own. But wait! Maybe you’ll find one in this kit.
The Chalk Box Kid (Battle of the Books Title)
Book written by: Clyde Robert Bulla
Book published by: Random House
You’ll be as delighted with the surprises in this kit as with the story itself. Along with Gregory, you may even find a voice through art with the things you find in this kit. This is a classic book, that will be enjoyed by generations to come.
Some of the kits contains food items best used within 30-60 days of purchase.
We want the incentives used in our kits to be a surprise to the children. We also realize grownups will need to know what’s inside. A complete list of objects used as incentives for this kit is available in the “FOR PARENTS AND TEACHERS” envelope included inside the kit. Please retain that envelope for your reference before giving the kit to a child.
Kits will ship the first week of June. Please allow 3-8 business days for shipping. This item is currently not available for shipment outside the continental U.S.
